In Australia and the rest of the developed world, we think of polio as a disease which has been consigned to the dustbin of medical history. There's a cheap and highly effective oral vaccine - two drops on your tongue and a boiled sweet to take the taste away, and you're covered for 10 years. And it costs bugger all. But when you earn only 2 dollars per day and have to feed your family, then I suppose there may not be much left for "luxuries" like medicines and vaccines.
